World Police & Fire Games a complete success!

With many thanks to Burnaby firefighters Miles Ritchie and Jeff Clark, the 2009 World Police & Fire Games has been termed a tremendous success!

More than 10,000 athletes registered for the Games that took place from July 31 to August 9, 2009. The brainchild of local Burnaby Fire Fighters Miles Ritchie and Jeff Clark, who spearheaded the Games coming to Burnaby and the lower mainland more than seven years ago, it's estimated the Games brought more than $50 million into local coffers, but the final figure of the economic impact is not in yet.

The Burnaby Fire Fighters Charitable Society helped organize the beer gardens that were held every day during the games and saw volunteers from all over the lower mainland participate.

For photos of the events, please visit the World Police & Fire Games website.

The next World Police & Fire Games will take place in New York City in 2011.
